Public relations is about mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and the audiences on which their success or failure depends. Key audiences of every kind can now be reached through new technology. Social media is especially helpful in fostering communication with and listening to key constituencies. It's now incumbent upon public relations professionals to not only be familiar with, but also to implement and manage a myriad of effective online communication channels. This course will discuss all types of social media - from social networking to publishing content on blogs, newsrooms and wikis, to multimedia sharing and bookmarking - as part of an effective online public relations strategy. Pete Codella, B.A., Accredited in Public Relations, is the President of Codella Marketing, a PR firm near Salt Lake City focused on utilizing new technology in the practice of public relations. Codella is also the founder of NewsCactus, an online newsroom solution for public relations and marketing professionals. He has served in local, regional and national leadership roles for organizations including the Public Relations Society of America, International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and Social Media Club. In addition to numerous awards for public relations and tactics, Codella received the 2007 Communicator of the Year Award, the highest honor bestowed on a chapter member by IABC in Las Vegas.
